Activate Plug & Charge

You can activate Plug & Charge in the charging view. This can make the charging process easier, from authentication to billing.

 Note

The Plug & Charge function is part of the charging view and may not be available in your country. This is because e-mobility service providers1, charging stations and other infrastructure must be able to support Plug & Charge in the country before you can use the function.
Tap on the car symbol PS2-2007-Car symbol on the bottom row and go to Settings.
Go to Charging and select Plug & Charge.
Switch the function on.

Start the Polestar app and follow the instructions in it.

If you use a different provider than Polestar's partners, you can activate Plug & Charge using the car's unique PCID2 number. The process and instructions may vary depending on the operator of the e-mobility service.

Tap on Read more for more information on configuring Plug & Charge.

Connect the car to a public charging station.

The contract certificate will be installed via the cable, and authorisation and payment are handled via the car and charging station. You can see its status in the driver display and charging port during installation.

The charging session starts when authorisation is complete.

 Note

If you experience any issues relating to Plug & Charge, try to reconnect the charging cable. If it still fails to work, check the charging settings to see if a contract has been installed in the car. If there is a contract, contact your e-mobility service provider to make sure there are no issues with the contract. If there is no contract, follow the activation steps again. Try standard charging if the problem persists. Authorise yourself at the charger and follow the instructions on the charging station's interface.

If Plug & Charge fails to work after a workshop visit, this may be because the contract certificate has been removed from the car. Follow the activation steps again.

You can find your contract certificate in the account menu. If you switch off Plug & Charge after installing a certificate, it is inactivated and will be inactive. To add a new contract certificate, make sure Plug & Charge is on and follow the activation steps again. The latest contract certificate is always installed.

Handling Plug & Charge contracts

Adding a contract certificate

To add a contract certificate, you need to make sure that Plug & Charge is on. Then follow the activation steps again. The latest contract certificate will always be installed.

Removing a contract certificate

When a Plug & Charge contract has been created, it is stored both in the car and on an external server. Note that you need to delete both if you sell the car or change ownership. If you want to delete the account permanently, you must also cancel the contract with your e-mobility service provider.

To delete a certificate in the car:
Go to Charging, select Plug & Charge and tap on the wastepaper basket symbol.
To delete a certificate on an external server:
Navigate to the Plug & Charge settings in the Polestar app and delete the certificate there3.

 Important

Restoring the software's factory settings in the car does not delete the contract certificates; to do this, you must delete them following the steps above.
  1. 1 An e-mobility service provider, also called e-MSP, is a company or organisation offering services relating to electrical mobility.
  2. 2 Provisioning Certificate ID
  3. 3 If your e-mobility service provider is not a Polestar partner, you will need to contact them as the procedure and instructions may differ.
