The next lap mindset: Shana Claessens on precision, control, and the pursuit of true performance

Belgian racing driver Shana Claessens reflects on what drives her, and how it mirrors the experience of getting behind the wheel of a Polestar 4 at Circuit Zolder, her home track.

You can hear it from her house. Not loud, not invasive. Just present. A rhythm in the distance.
“I love the sound of the track,” says Shana Claessens. She is an accomplished racing driver with experience across both traditional and electric motorsport. Her interest in cars began at an early age, in her father's garage, watching him work with tools and engines. His sense of precision stayed with her and still shapes how she drives and goes about her day.

She lives just minutes from the legendary racing grounds. The road there feels like an extension of it, and she knows every curve and corner like the back of her hand. On track days, her routine is simple: dogs walked, gear packed the night before, coffee in hand, music turned up. Ready to go.

A day on the track

This particular day was about more than Shana’s own rhythm. Guests from the Netherlands were invited to Circuit Zolder for a full-day track experience with Polestar 2, 3, and 4. Guided by instructors, they explored what the thrill of electric performance truly feels like, with space to push the cars to their full potential. Learn, adjust, and go again. “It’s about adapting. Becoming sharper, smoother, more in tune with yourself and the car,” says Shana as we approach the welcome sign.

Every corner counts

Zolder itself plays a part. Built in 1963, the circuit gained recognition in the 1970s and 80s as one of the key venues in international motorsport. Today, it remains a technical and demanding track, known for its narrow chicanes, sudden elevation, and fast braking zones that reveal the smallest differences in driver input and reward those who learn quickly. “That’s when you see who’s really improving,” Shana reflects.

With guidance from the instructors and time behind the wheel, the progress was clear. Confidence grew, lines tightened, and the feedback reflected a deeper appreciation for the cars. The Polestar 4 stood out. Not just for the guests, but for Shana too. “The first time I drove the Polestar 4, it just felt so balanced. It gets you through every corner. You’re always in control, but it feels like it drives with you,” she says.

The next lap

Shana is no stranger to speed. It’s a constant in her life. Even her dogs are built for it. But for her, the essence of performance is not speed alone. It’s progression. “You can set your best lap, and the next time, you try again. That drive to find and improve the smallest detail is what keeps me coming back.”

Performance is a mindset. And it's in Polestar’s DNA. Rooted in precision, defined by control, and driven by a constant desire to evolve and improve. It’s where progress meets the joy of driving.

Just like racing. Just like Shana.

The next lap starts here. Meet Polestar 4.
