Over-the-air updates

Over-the-air updates keep your vehicle's software up to date.

When your vehicle is connected to the internet, it can receive over-the-air1 updates to keep the vehicle's software up to date. The vehicle will tell you when there is an update available to download by displaying the download update symbol in the status bar. When the download is successful and ready to install, the install update symbol appears instead. You can also see notifications in the center display.

You can check for new updates by going to SettingsSystemSoftware updates in settings. Pressing the status bar update symbols will also take you to the software updates view.

Downloading software updates

You will be asked if you want to enable automatic software downloads when you set up your vehicle for the first time. If you decide not to enable them, you will be asked for consent to download software updates whenever they are available. You can always choose to enable or disable automatic downloads at a later time in settings.

When an update is ready to download or is downloading, the download update symbol appears in the center display's status bar. If you have enabled automatic updates, the update will download automatically while you are using or driving the vehicle. If you haven't enabled automatic updates, you will need to consent to the update before it can download while you are using or driving the vehicle.

Software updates can often be quite large, so the update might take some time to fully download.

Installing software updates

When a software update has successfully downloaded and is ready to be installed, you will see the install update symbol in the status bar the next time you start your vehicle. You need to start the installation yourself, either via a notification in the center display or in the software updates view. You can also choose to schedule the update so that it installs at a later time or cancel the installation after confirming it.

You can't access or use your vehicle while a software update is installing. Therefore, make sure that there is sufficient remaining battery charge and that you don't need to use your vehicle during the installation process. The vehicle will tell you how much remaining battery charge you need to start the installation and will give you an estimate of how long it will take to install the update.

 Note
